Fire Research Services is an independent fire consultancy set up in 1995 by Stan Ames following 30 years of research into various aspects of fire science and fire engineering at the Fire Research Station, UK.
Over the same period, the subject of fire has grown into an established area of science, and Fire Safety Engineering has now been recognised as a professional engineering discipline in the UK with the first Chartered Engineers appearing in recent years.
The success of the company is based on a sound understanding of the behaviour of fire and the behaviour of materials and products in fires acquired through many years of research and experience with real fires and full scale fire and explosion experiments.
Stan Ames trained initially as a research chemist and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry.
He is both a Chartered Chemist and a Chartered Fire engineer. He received the Royal Aeronautical Society’s Handley Page award for services to aviation safety and the US Industrial Film and Video Gold Camera award for fire safety videos.
